About Alsquared Costumes

What We Do

When I was a kid, I loved playing dress-up. Now I’m an adult and call it “cosplay.”

Of course, the quality has improved since those days. Something that bothered me about costumes, even when I was young, was how poorly made so many of them are. You can always tell the difference between a costume, even a good one, and an actual garment that a real person might wear. I always strive to make the latter.

I look for quality material with a realistic feel and I make sure that all my garments are practical and comfortable. All my designs are based on careful research into both the source material and any real world inspiration it might have.

Who We Are

We’re Alex and Alex, AlSquared.

We are a couple who make and dress up in costumes. Alex loves designing and making costumes and has a whole backlog of sewing projects to get to later. Alex graciously accepts the mess this hobby creates, helps make things, and dresses up for fun couples costumes. We also do ballroom dance and make performance costumes.

Since more people want many of these costumes the time or space to design and make them, we also make them for sale on Etsy.

  • Recent commission I've been working on for a while now, based mostly on Jack Nicholson's costume, I've pulled inspiration from both the Heath Ledger and Cesar Romero versions, as well.
  • I figured out how to make custom resin pins, and this Rainbow Baphomet design is my first success. I've made both pins and cufflinks, and love the outcome.
  • I am now the proud owner of a roughly 100 year old Damascus Grand Rotary sewing machine head. Now what do I do with it? Let’s start by figuring out what we have.
  • Final Templar uniform frock coat, in it's very toast wool glory. It took months to finish, but I'm very happy with the outcome.
  • At this point I still need to do the button holes, finish the cuffs, and remove the basting stitches.
  • All that canvas and batting is how Victorian coats hold their shape, regardless of how you move in them.
